With a history dating back to the 16th century, it is believed that this breed has its origins in the Rubia Gallega cows that arrived on the island at that time.<\/p>

For centuries, the Palmera cow has played a crucial role in the life of the island, its main mission being the hauling of logs and stones for construction, as well as assisting in various agricultural tasks. Its docile and calm character allows it to work in difficult terrain and small orchards, making it an invaluable companion for local farmers.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

With a distinctive light blonde colour and an average weight of around 600 kilos, the Palmera cow is known for its meat aptitude. It is farmed semi-extensively, taking advantage of the island's natural pastures and fodder, which contributes to the conservation of La Palma's characteristic landscape.<\/p>

An outstanding feature of Palmera beef is its exceptional quality. Analyses carried out by the veterinarian M\u00aa. Nieves Rodr\u00edguez Mar\u00edn have shown that this meat does not contain heavy metals or toxins, and has a low fat content, being rich in oleic fatty acid, which makes it beneficial for cardiovascular health.<\/p>

Despite its value and uniqueness, the Palmera cow is in danger of extinction due to the low number of specimens remaining, approximately 400 to 500 individuals of all ages. Eating Palmera beef not only guarantees an exceptional gastronomic experience, but also contributes to the conservation of this native breed and the region's livestock biodiversity.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Association of Palmera Cow Breeders (AVAPAL) plays a fundamental role in the preservation of this breed. Through the certified seal of origin \"Raza Aut\u00f3ctona 100%\", it guarantees the authenticity of products derived from this breed and promotes their conscious consumption.<\/p>

In addition, the Club de Arrastre la Canga holds traditional events such as the Insular Dragging Competition, where the strength and dexterity of these cows can be appreciated in a display of the rich livestock culture of La Palma.<\/p>
