Sergio Rodr\u00edguez stressed that events such as these are more than just a gastronomic event, transcending cultural and ethnographic aspects.<\/h4>

The Cabildo de La Palma, through the public company Sodepal, is preparing the celebration of the Gastronomic Festival Saborea La Palma, which will be held in the municipality of Fuencaliente on the weekend of 8 to 10 November.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>

The presentation of the event, which took place at the San Antonio Volcano Visitor Centre, served to detail the characteristics of an event \"that goes beyond the simple concept of a gastronomic fair with performances and tastings\", emphasised the island president, Sergio Rodr\u00edguez.\u00a0<\/p>

In choosing the location, it has been taken into account that Fuencaliente is one of the most outstanding wine producers in the Canary Islands, and has the oldest vines of the aromatic Malvasia variety, which has been world famous for centuries and is nowadays one of the most outstanding products of the island of La Palma.<\/p>

In addition, Fuencaliente is a municipality of great agricultural activity and has several wineries and one of the best known salt mines in the Canary Islands, all surrounded by volcanoes, lava landscapes, as well as an important area of Canary Island pine forest.<\/p>

The dates chosen coincide with the feast of St. Martin, patron saint of agricultural activities and with great popularity among farmers, livestock breeders, winegrowers and winemakers on the island.<\/p>

For this reason, Sergio Rodr\u00edguez stressed that this type of event is much more than just a culinary event, \"they are true festivals that celebrate cultural diversity and promote the local economy,\" he said.<\/p>

The Councillor for Economic Promotion and Trade, Miriam Perestelo, stressed that this type of event makes it possible to promote the Island's products and producers, while also promoting sustainability and the consumption of zero-kilometre products.<\/p>

He also insisted that this fair will become \"a celebration of our gastronomy, which unites us, and also makes us enjoy our origins\".\u00a0<\/p>

All of this is done through the 'Saborea La Palma' project, which represents a firm commitment to gastronomy and the island's most outstanding products and elaborations.<\/p>

Thus, this island gastronomic festival will bring together farmers and stockbreeders, agri-food producers, restaurateurs, gourmet product distributors, as well as a broad representation of agents from the agri-food, agricultural, commercial and tourism sectors, critics and gastronomic experts, the hotel and catering industry, both from the island and with the presence of important Canary Island and Spanish personalities.<\/p>

The intention of this event is that it will take place in the streets of the municipality, making it more accessible.<\/p>

In addition to the specific planning of an activity area, conferences, colloquiums, talks, show cooking, workshops and culinary competitions, we have also thought of setting up an exhibition and sales area for restaurateurs, as well as a stand for agricultural producers to show and market their products from the primary sector.<\/p>

Other specific culinary events will be held in parallel, such as a national confectionery meeting, the installation of a cheese and wine sensory tunnel, as well as tourist promotion areas and various musical performances.<\/p>

Another unique feature of the Festival is the 'Jura de la Pipa', where the new locally produced wines are tasted, which traditionally coincides with the festival of San Mart\u00edn.<\/p>

For his part, the Mayor of Fuencaliente, Gregorio Alonso, stressed the satisfaction of receiving this first Gastronomic Festival in his municipality, pointing out that it is a \"reference municipality in the generation of employment linked to local products\".\u00a0<\/p>
