12 Jun The Cabildo of La Palma promotes a map and sustainable gastronomic routes to promote the island's resources
The Gastronomic Map and Sustainable Gastronomic Routes of La Palma project link the quality of the island's gastronomy with its natural and cultural resources.
The Cabildo de La Palma, through the Department of Commerce headed by Miriam Perestelo, is promoting the Gastronomic Map and Sustainable Gastro Routes to highlight the natural and cultural resources of the island in relation to gastronomy.
The initiative has been unveiled at the Puntagorda Market, a place that represents the values that this initiative aims to convey and which has been chosen to continue working along the lines of the current government team to decentralise the events promoted by the Cabildo and boost the dynamism of the different districts, especially the more rural ones. The presentation was attended by the island president, Sergio Rodríguez; the head of Economic Promotion and Commerce and CEO of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo; the first deputy mayor of Puntagorda, Michelle Márquez, and the head of the Vivero de Innovación Ciudadana (VIC) , Miguel Jaenicke.
Sergio Rodríguez stressed that this new project highlights the natural, gastronomic and cultural resources of La Palma and will offer something different in the promotion of the island's gastronomic destination with the aim of attracting visitors, making places and flavours from all corners of La Palma known and at the same time supporting the business network linked to the gastronomic sector.
In this sense, the president highlighted the idea of linking gastronomy with the landscape, as well as the importance of consuming local and seasonal products, which benefits farmers and livestock breeders, and also helps to preserve the environment.
For her part, Miriam Perestelo explained that the gastronomic map will be the basis for the creation of tourism products based on gastronomy, as it allows for the identification of the opportunities of gastronomic culture and the proposal of strategic lines for its dynamisation as a sustainable and quality tourism product.
In addition, the material that has been presented has an interactive and online format, which makes it possible to update it at any time and can be printed out for those who wish to have it at hand. It will also be translated into several languages.
The gastronomic routes will have a territorial dimension and a specific structural configuration linking destinations, products, natural and cultural attractions, services and activities for healthy and sustainable enjoyment. There will be three of them, with specific themes related to wine, cheese and confectionery.
This project also makes it possible to generate a system of participation and business accompaniment that makes it possible to control the quality of the gastronomic product on offer and to quantify the direct economic repercussions on La Palma.
The initiative is financed by the Cabildo de La Palma, subject to the subsidy of FEDER funds from the project Saborea La Palma, which belongs to the INTERREG MAC Programme, and has been developed through the Vivero de Innovación Ciudadana (VIC).
