Gofio is one of the most ancestral foods of the Canary Islands, as its origin dates back hundreds of years. In the past, it was considered the food of people with low purchasing power and served as sustenance in times of famine. Nowadays, it is the staple food of many inhabitants of the Canary Islands, although with a better reputation since 2014, when it was awarded the Denomination of Origin.
